The Price Is RightŪ
Every morning people wait in long lines outside the CBS station in Hollywood hoping to be asked to "Come on down!" as the next contestant on The Price Is Right. America's highest rated daytime game show and the longest running game show in TV history, The Price Is Right has been giving away new cars and lavish vacations daily for over 35 years.
What many don't know is that newly retired Bob Barker is not the original emcee. Bill Cullen hosted the inaugural The Price is Right from 1956-1965, but it was Bob and his "Barker Beauties" who grabbed America's attention in 1972 and never let go. Drew Carey took the reins in 2007 as the new host and has stirred up a new generation of viewer enthusiasm for the show with his quick wits and engaging personality.
The game is simple: players view a prize, such as a refrigerator or a room full of furniture, and then have to guess its price. The player closest to the price, without going over, wins it. Once on stage, Carey presides over a series of games of chance and skill, ranging from dropping "Plinko" chips down a vertical maze to putting a golf ball into a hole. At the end, one lucky contestant tests his/her luck on the Big Wheel in the game show's hallmark "Showcase Showdown." Producers choose contestants from the audience while they're waiting in line before the show-often picked for their enthusiasm or individuality. Why not give players a chance to "Come on down".
